Frequently Asked Questions

Storage tips, where to find your golf car's serial number, and maintenance tips from D&T.

Storage Tips

Most of our customers are not full time residents in Arizona. Typically they are only here a few months out of the year, leaving their golf cart sitting for long periods of time. These long periods of being unused can be very difficult on the batteries and often cause the golf car not to start when they return.

We typically recommend having a friend or family member help out by charging and checking water levels in the batteries at least once a month.

Purchase a "Battery Maintainer." It works on several makes of vehicles and basically turns on to charge the battery pack when the voltage drops to a certain preset level, then turns off when full charge is attained.

Battery Maintainers generally run in the $220.00 price range. (Price subject to change and availability.)

Locate the Serial Number

We are commonly asked… Where is my serial number, VIN number or the manufacturer's code located?

E-Z-GO: Located under the dash near the passenger's left shin. The plate indicates the week and year of manufacturing plus a vehicle identification number. On older models the serial plate can be located in the battery compartment.

Club Car: Located under the dash near the passenger's left shin. The plate indicates the week and year of manufacturing plus a vehicle identification number. On an older style three pedal car (pre 80's) you'll find the serial plate stamped on the channel under the driver's or passenger's seat.

Columbia Par Car: Located under the dash on the passenger side.

Cushman: Located on the frame, left of the driver's foot, usually a six digit number stamped on the side frame.

Harley-Davidson: Located under the driver's seat on the frame cross brace in the battery compartment.

Legend: Located under the driver's seat, stamped on the cross member or plate located in the same general area. Sometimes you'll find it's located the same as an E-Z-GO.

Marketeer: Located on the dash in front of the driver's left knee.

Melex: See E-Z-GO, except the plate does not indicate year of manufacturing.

Otis: See Cushman.

Nordskog: Located on the dash in front of the driver's left knee.

Taylor-Dunn: Located on the firewall behind the passenger's knee. The plate may indicate the year of manufacturing as well.

Western: Located under the passenger seat, stamped on the cross member. On new model NEVs the VIN is located under the windshield on the driver's side.

Yamaha: G-1: the whole body must be tilted back to view the batteries; this changed in 1984, when you could flip the seat forward to service the batteries. The serial number is stamped under the rear bumper on the passenger's side. G-4: located on the floorboard near the driver's left foot by the mid cowl.

Maintenance Tips

Battery care

  • Battery water level should never be allowed to fall below the top of the plates and should be filled only to the bottom of the slot with distilled water.
  • Please take care when filling with distilled water. Overfilling will allow the electrolytes to escape through the vents and will corrode unprotected metal and discolor concrete.
  • Battery posts and cable connections should be cleaned, tightened, and be kept free from corrosion.
  • Once a month washing of the battery compartment with a garden hose will usually keep dirt and corrosion off.

Note: this washing should NOT be done in your garage or driveway, as the acid will cause permanent stains on the concrete!

Check once a month

For trouble-free use, we urge the owner to check the following areas at least once a month:

  • Tire pressure: about 25 PSI. It will be listed on the side of the tire.
  • Proper battery water level
  • Wash the battery compartment
  • Lubricate speed control contacts (not all makes)

For your safety, when leaving the vehicle unattended, be sure the key is turned to the OFF position and the Forward/Reverse selector is in NEUTRAL.
